Do Subscription Offers Score Worse Than One-Time Payments?

73 recurring offers average 5.54 out of 10, one-time offers 5.93. The gap is real but small, and almost all of it sits in one subscore.

Do Subscription Offers Score Worse Than One-Time Payments?

Do subscription offers score worse than one-time payments?

Slightly. As of October 2026 recurring offers average 5.54 out of 10 and one-time offers 5.93, a gap of 0.39 points that comes almost entirely from pricing honesty.

We looked at all 1920 offers in the catalog and split them by how the order form bills you. 73 are recurring, meaning the billing line says subscription or recurring, or names a monthly, weekly or yearly charge. The other 1,847 are one-time payments.

The headline is less dramatic than the usual advice to avoid every subscription. The recurring group scores a little lower, but its verdicts look almost the same as the one-time group. What changes is how honestly the price is presented, and that is where the rest of this guide spends its time. How we score is explained on the methodology page.

How did we count recurring versus one-time offers?

We read the billing field of each review. Anything that starts with Subscription or Recurring, or states a per-month, per-week or per-year charge, counts as recurring.

Offers mentioned in this section
ProductCategoryOffer scorePriceBillingVerdict
7 Day Prayer Miracle Spirituality 3.6/10 $27 Pre-checked subscription: $27 now, then $37 per month Pass
Make Small Talk Sexy Relationships 3.9/10 $27 Subscription: $27 now, then $27.97 per month for 8 months Pass
30-Minute Online Coaching Session Make Money Online 4.1/10 EUR 50.00 Subscription: EUR 50 first month, then EUR 20 per month Pass
7 FIGURE MASTERY Make Money Online 4.4/10 $0 Recurring: $0 now, then six monthly payments of $24.99 Pass

A one-time offer that also mentions an optional monthly plan stays in the one-time group, because the buyer can choose to pay once. A fixed run of payments, such as the six monthly payments of $24.99 on 7 Figure Mastery, counts as recurring because the card is charged more than once.

All numbers are computed from our own review data as of October 2026. We audit the sales page and the order form, and we have never bought or used any of these products, so a score describes the offer, not the quality of the content.

What are the average scores for each group?

Recurring offers average 5.54 with a median of 5.4. One-time offers average 5.93 with a median of 6.1. Recurring scores run from 3.6 to 7.6, one-time scores from 2.9 to 8.3.

The two ranges overlap almost completely, so billing type alone tells you little about any single offer. The median price of the first charge is also lower for recurring offers: $27 against $37 for one-time offers, which fits the pattern of a low entry price followed by a monthly fee.

Value for money is nearly flat between the groups, 4.43 for recurring and 4.59 for one-time. Delivery, refund terms and claim discipline sit close together too.

Average subscores, recurring vs one-time (as of October 2026)

  • Pricing honesty: 4.77 vs 7.45
  • Vendor transparency: 4.79 vs 4.16
  • Refund terms: 7.23 vs 7.75
  • Delivery and access: 7.03 vs 7.31
  • Claim discipline: 4.78 vs 4.69
  • Value for money: 4.43 vs 4.59

Why is pricing honesty the difference?

Because a subscription adds a second price that the sales page often does not show. Eleven of the 73 recurring offers (15.1%) score 3.0 or lower on pricing honesty, against 35 of the 1,847 one-time offers (1.9%).

The pattern behind low pricing honesty is usually the same: the page talks about one small payment, and the order form shows a trial or a first month followed by a larger monthly charge. 7 Day Prayer Miracle is sold at $27 with a pre-checked box that adds $37 per month after 30 free days. Make Small Talk Sexy bills $27 now and then $27.97 a month for 8 months, none of which appears on its sales page.

Only 16 of the 73 recurring offers score 7.0 or higher on pricing honesty. For one-time offers the share is 78.1%. If you want the long version of this problem, read our guide to subscriptions that look like one-time purchases and the checklist on free trials and delayed billing.

Which subscription offers score lowest?

The three lowest recurring offers are 7 Day Prayer Miracle at 3.6, Make Small Talk Sexy at 3.9 and a 30-minute coaching session at 4.1, all rated Pass.

30-Minute Online Coaching Session is named as a single session, yet the order form charges EUR 50 now and EUR 20 every month until cancelled. The seller's own page returns a 404 error. That mismatch between name and billing is the whole story of the low score.

The next group of recurring offers all sits at 4.4, with the same traits: a vague first price, a monthly charge that the page plays down, and little about who is behind the offer. Our data shows a pattern, not a rule. A low price today plus a monthly fee later is the combination to read twice.

Are there subscriptions that score well?

Yes. Ten of the 73 recurring offers are rated Worth it, and the best, The Mystery of Nils at $28.50 per month, scores 7.6.

Good subscriptions share one trait: the price on the page matches the price on the form, and cancelling is stated. The Mystery of Nils is a Norwegian course billed at $28.50 per month, cancellable monthly, with a 60-day refund window on the form. Pagewheel Business Plan shows $0 today and $47 per month from day 7, with a 30-day refund window.

Red Dragon Sports Tipping bills $6.36 a week and says so on the page, which is why it scores 7.1. Recurring billing is not the problem. Hidden recurring billing is.

Does a one-time payment guarantee a good offer?

No. One-time offers include plenty of low scorers, because other problems such as empty sales pages, income promises and unverifiable claims do not depend on billing.

Wealth Manifest charges $39.99 once for a membership that the page never describes, and scores 3.9. Forbidden Punters Code charges $34.31 once while its page advertises a price in a different currency, and also scores 3.9.

Millionaire Partner System is a single $1,997 payment that scores 4.1 on a 5-figure income promise. In our data, 691 of the 1,847 one-time offers (37.4%) are a Pass. Our guide on price and score looks at how cost relates to quality.

What should you check before paying for a recurring offer?

Find the second price, the billing interval and the cancel route on the order form, and compare them with what the sales page says.

Before you pay

  1. Read the order form total and the line under it. Look for words such as then, per month, every week and after the trial.
  2. Check for pre-ticked boxes. A box you did not tick can add a recurring plan, as in the 7 Day Prayer Miracle review.
  3. Note the first charge date and the next one. Put the second date in your calendar.
  4. Find out how to cancel and whether it happens in the customer portal. Our cancel guide shows the steps.
  5. Check the refund window on the form, not only on the sales page.

Use this short checklist before you enter card details. It takes two minutes and covers most of what lowered the scores above.
